Spiral Wound Gasket
Spiral Wound Gasket is a semi metallic sealing component that combines metal strength and non-metal elasticity. It is formed by spiral winding a pre formed metal strip and a flexible filling material around a metal core axis. Its unique alternating winding structure perfectly combines the structural support of the metal strip with the sealing flexibility of the filling material, making it a core product in the industrial sealing field and widely suitable for various harsh working conditions.
The core structure consists of three parts: one is the metal winding tape, which serves as the structural skeleton of the gasket, providing compressive and deformation resistance. Common materials include 304, 316, 321 stainless steel, Monel alloy, titanium alloy, etc., which can be flexibly selected according to the degree of corrosion in the working conditions; The second is the filling material, which serves as the sealing core, filling the gaps between metal strips and compensating for small defects on the flange surface. The mainstream materials include graphite, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), mica, etc. Among them, graphite filling has become the first choice in industries such as petroleum and chemical due to its excellent high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance; The third option is to choose inner and outer metal rings. The outer ring is used for positioning and guiding, preventing excessive compression and blowing of the gasket, while the inner ring is used to protect the winding part from medium erosion, reduce fluid turbulence, and further improve sealing reliability.
According to the structural form, Spiral Wound Gaskets are mainly divided into four categories, adapted to different flange types and working conditions, and accurately matched with industry scenarios:
-Style R: Only includes the winding body, without inner and outer rings, suitable for tongue groove and concave convex flanges, mainly for medium and low pressure conditions, widely used for sealing of ordinary pipelines and small equipment;
-Style RIR/IR: It includes a winding body and an inner ring, which can prevent the medium from corroding the winding part and prevent the gasket from buckling inward. It is suitable for concave convex flanges and medium high pressure conditions, such as chemical reactors, heat exchangers, and other equipment;
-Style CG: It includes a wrapped body and an outer ring, which facilitates gasket positioning, controls compression, and prevents gasket blowing out. It is suitable for flat and convex flanges and is the most commonly used type in pipeline systems;
-Style CGI with inner and outer rings: It combines the advantages of inner and outer rings, providing comprehensive protection for the winding body and precise positioning. It is suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature, corrosive, and toxic media scenarios above 900 levels, such as nuclear power, petroleum refining, high-pressure vessels, and other core equipment.
Its core application industries include petrochemicals, power generation, metallurgy, shipbuilding, nuclear industry, food and pharmaceuticals, etc. It is specifically used for flange sealing of pipelines, valves, heat exchangers, boilers, pressure vessels and other equipment. It is a key basic component for "leak prevention, safety and efficiency improvement" in industrial production, and can play a stable sealing role from ordinary working conditions to extremely harsh scenarios.
