ASTM A815 is an international standard specification for forged ferritic, ferritic/austenitic, and martensitic stainless steel fittings, with the latest version being A815/A815M-26 (released in March 2026), mainly used to standardize the manufacturing and inspection requirements of stainless steel pipe fittings.
What does this standard cover
Scope of application: This standard covers forged stainless steel fittings with seamless and welded structures, including three material types: ferrite, ferrite/austenite (duplex), and martensite.
Not applicable: This standard does not apply to cast pipe fittings, and cast pipe fittings should refer to other standards.
Unit requirement: The standard provides both imperial units and international units (SI). Unless the order specifically states the use of the "M" version (SI), the supply will be based on imperial units by default
How to classify pipe fittings
WP fittings: manufactured according to the requirements of A960/A960M specifications, with pressure rating in accordance with Article 13.2 of the standard, divided into four subcategories:
WP-S: Seamless process manufactured pipe fittings, marked as WP-S.
WP-W: including welds and manufactured welds that have undergone radiographic testing, marked as WP-W.
WP-WX: Includes welds and all welds have undergone radiographic testing, marked as WP-WX.
WP-WU: Includes welds and all welds have undergone ultrasonic testing, marked as WP-WU.
CR fittings: manufactured in accordance with MSS SP-43 specifications, with pressure rating in accordance with Article 13.3 of the standard.
